So, you have a laptop connected to the Interned over 3G (mobile phone network broadband access). Or your laptop is wired into the Internet but there is no WiFi on your router.
You also have other WiFi devices, such as an Android tablet, PS3, smart phone, Kindle and other laptops. All of these devices need to connect to the Internet over WiFi. How do you do it?
Well, it is possible to turn your laptop into a WiFi hotspot so that all of these devices can connect over WiFi to your laptop and share your internet connection.
No extra hardware is required.
Have a look at Connectify. Their FREE version should satisfy most requirements. However, if this does not work for you then there are other options.
1 MiFi: You can get a thing called a MiFi from Three. This is a standalone box and replaces your USB dongle and creates a WiFi hotspot for a radius of 10 metres.
All devices (including your laptop) connect over WiFi to the MiFi and onwards to the web.
Problem here is that if you have a desktop the chances are that it has no WiFi capability and so could not connect to the web unless you also got a WiFi adaptor for it.
Also, might be more expensive than your existing 3G dongle and I’m not sure how good they are.
Heres a link anyway: http://www.three.ie/business/plans/mifi.html
2 Windows 7: Apparently Windows 7 allows you to configure your laptop as a WiFi hotspot with all built-in Windows software (i.e. nothing to download and install).
1.) Click on the right side on WiFi icon of the Windows task bar and then click on open network and sharing center.
2.) Then after the first step under the option change your network setting select set up a new connection or network..
3.) After following the second step a new pop up window will appear, select set up a wireless ad hoc network.
4.) Next pop up window will ask you to give your network a name and choose security options and here you have to give network a name and a security key and press the next button right hand side of the pop up window.
5.) After clicking on the next button, the network you created will be ready to use if you are connected to the internet with any source. The pop up window will ask you for a option called Turn on Internet Connection Sharing. You have to click on that option and this step will convert your laptop or computer to a WiFi hotspot.

3 MHotSpot: As an alternative to Connectify, here’s some other free software that just might work.
Here’s the link: http://www.mhotspot.com/
I would try option 2 first and then (if that’s no good) option 3.
Option 1 would require talking to Three to get more details (e.g. can personal users even get it?)
